2/1    AM-jogging & stretching                         PM-Rescue Clinic on Trancura

The students piled into the van after loading the trailer with boats and gear, with Volcano Villarrica looming over everyone’s shoulders.  This normal routine seemed to carry over smoothly after the long winter vacation, and the air Junior, Cael Jones works on his righty blunt on the Liucurawas full of excitement for paddling a new river.  After the ten-minute ride, a sketchy bridge, and some tight fence maneuvering thanks to our driver, Orlando, we arrived at the Liucura River, unloaded and geared up.  Head coach, David Hughes and the newest member of team Dagger, Alex Mohn, instructed the new students on the warm-up drills.  Tino Specht, Sean Johnson, Morgan Tidd, and Brian Boyle learned the flat-water helix, clean-lean, shove-it, and several other strength intensive warm-up exercises.

The small play spot on the Liucura was perfect for both beginner and advanced freestyle instruction.  While Sara Hunter got her first roundhouses, Brian and Cael Jones were getting blunts.  Alex, Jake Greenbaum, and Tino, were sticking loops, and attempting McNastys.  Everyone has had a blast surfing the cool blue water of the Liucura, especially because the air temperature is about 90 degrees.

During an after school safety clinic on the Trancura River, students were responsible for scouting, throwing rope, communication, T-rescues, boat/body recovery, and some swimming techniques.  This was an efficient way to acclimate the newer group members into our rescue and river running protocol.  After the clinic, students practiced flat-water freestyle, and surfed the wave.
